Labor Day weekend 2008

This weekend was Labor Day weekend and John definitely needed the 3 day weekend to recuperate from the first two weeks of school. We really didn’t have much planned, which was nice. On Friday night we went to The Terrace to hang out with John’s med school friends. I ended up talking to another wife of a med student for the majority of the night. We talked about our weddings, our engagements, the withdrawal, and moving to Madison. It’s nice to talk to someone that empathizes.

Afterwards we bar hopped to a couple more places, Johnny O’s and Amy’s Cafe. Nothing that exciting, but I’m learning where everything is located. There are seriously a million bars in Madison, at least compared to the bay area.

On Saturday, John and I woke up late and headed straight to Taste of Madison. It’s this event held every year where restaurants from all over Madison come together and have booths of decently priced foods, that you could get a “taste” of what Madison restaurants have to offer. All the foods are anywhere from $1-$5. It got so easy to spend $50 in a matter of minutes. We definitely enjoyed eating!

After Taste of Madison, we attempted to go furniture shopping at A1 Furniture, and we managed to get there 2 minutes before closing. Luckily the salesperson was really nice and showed us around anyway. We discovered that furniture is expensive! Since we were pressed for time, we decided we’d come back later. I think we may still get a couch from there, but we need to find a cheap place to buy a dining set.

For dinner we met up with our friends Matt and Collette for dinner at The Weary Traveler. I enjoyed my meal, but I know that John was a little dissatisfied with the size of his portion. I was a happy camper with my Carne Asada. More importantly was our company. It’s always fun times hanging out with Matt and Collette, definitely a fun couple.

After dinner, we headed back to Amy’s Cafe to meet up with more of John’s fellow classmates. After being there for a few minutes, they all decided to head to The Plaza. There were mixed reactions on heading to The Plaza which worried me that we were heading to a ghetto place, but it wasn’t that bad. I think every bar just seems the same to me. Anyway, I’m glad Collette was there to keep me company…sober company is all nice when you are sober as well. After leaving The Plaza, we stopped by the Warm Cookie Truck which literally has mouthwatering warm cookies. Yummy. Great way to end the night.

Our Sunday was even lazier than our Saturday. We did nothing the whole afternoon, and then eventually went to dinner with John’s cousin Mike at Bandung, a place we learned from a Taste of Madison. After dinner, we went to Walgreen’s then to church. After church, I was feeling pretty unproductive so I convinced John to go to the library to study for a little bit, and that was our night.

On Monday we were invited by John’s classmate, Erica, to join them on their boat. We pretty much spent the entire day on Lake Mendota just relaxing and swimming. It was pretty sweet. When we came home I just crashed and slept for 3 hours. And that was pretty much our recap of Labor Day weekend 2008.
