Our Charmeng Wedding: Get Down and Funky

With my bridal gown and veil back on, the next order of business was our First Dance.

John and I have been dating since 1999. Long time, right? Well, that’s what happens when you’re high school sweethearts. *Insert awwwwww* I’m sure that everyone can attest to the fact that dating in high school is a lot different than dating in your 20s. You remember high school dating. Usually the guy asks the girl “would you be my girlfriend?” The girl says yes. She remember the day, the time, everything. And of course, you had “a song.” John and I were like many other couples. We had a song, and it happened to be “Spend my life” by Eric Benet & Tamia. We’ve had this song since 1999, and it was important to me that we dance to it.

But dancing for 4 minutes to our song didn’t seem that appealing from the point of view of our guests. John and I decided that, like many couple do nowadays, we’d toss it up. After dancing for about 2 minutes of “our song” it broke off into Chris Brown’s “Forever” song, which we felt was a great First Dance song. I have to thank my brother for getting me to listen to this song. The song is now constantly played on the radio, but when we decided to do the song you never heard it on the radio. My brother had made us a random cd of songs he liked, and he put this song on there. After listening to the cd non-stop, we realized how awesome the song actually was.

It looks like I’m saying “big breasts,” but I’m only stalling as John changes out of his tux shoes and jacket, and into some Nikes and a Fedora hat.

Don’t you love how his groomsmen shielded him from the guests, but some of the guests still are eager to get a peek?

And here he comes…

He has some awesome moves…

UGGGHHH!

Then he was joined by his groomsmen. All the boys changed out of their tux shoes, and into their Nikes. We gave all the guys matching Nike Assaults–the groomsmen wore them in black/royal blue/flint grey and John wore them in white/white/neutral grey.

And the guys had their dance, John brought me up to dance. But I couldn’t let him and the boys show us girls up!

Me and my gals shakin our groove thang.

Aren’t we cute!?!

And then it was time for John and I to do our own little thing.

Like the robot…

and the cha-cha.

Then the entire wedding party came out to do a nice dip…

…and a bow.

We gave high-5s to our bridal party and then did this beauty:

We love chest bumps. It’s fun!

But wait! It’s not over!!!

We had a lot of fun doing our dance. I’m glad this picture really captured that.

Now it’s over! Ta-da!!! Grand finale!!!

But of course John got really pumped up after our performance. I LOVE this picture. He’s such a dork. What a great and memorable first dance.

But to really appreciate it, you have to watch it:
