Congratulations President Obama

John always finds it amusing that I never take much of an interest in politics, considering that I was a political science major in college. I don’t know what it is, but usually I just take no interest in politics. But this year I am elated to say that America has made history tonight by electing Barack Obama as its next President. The first time I heard the name Barack Obama, it was 3 years ago. I was registered for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association conference, which was to be held in Chicago. My other classmates signed up for the conference were discussing how excited they were to be attending the conference because the keynote speaker was Barack Obama, the senator of Illinois. I was pretty clueless who he was, but the excitement made me curious as to who this man was. It wasn’t until the day he would give his keynote speech that I understand what the hype was all about. Barack Obama was such an eloquent and moving speaker. He aroused the hope and spirit of everyone in the room. I was captivated by what he had to say, and felt like I was going to make a difference in the world. (Keep in mind that he was speaking to a room full of lawyers and law students) Someone had asked if he was going to run for president, and I think he just said “we’ll see.” And 3 years later, I am delighted to see that he is going to run our country.

And just for old times sake, one of the pictures I snagged while at my conference 3 years ago:

Yea, I was THAT close to him. I am moved.
