After our impromptu picture taking after party, I sat down and just soaked up everything. After slowly coming down to reality, I realized “wow, I’m hungry. I’m actually REALLY hungry.” I start to scan through the day’s activities, and realized that I hadn’t eaten a full meal since our tea ceremony, which was at 1am, and by that time it was 2am. John and I had managed to eat a couple of pieces of the roasted pig hors d’oeuvres after cocktail hour, we had the crab claw appetizer, the scallion w/ roasted duck soup, and the cake that we had fed each other. But other than that, nothing. Ironic that we had hors d’ouevres and a 10 course dinner, but yet didn’t eat a thing!
After basically eating nothing for the past 12 hours, I started telling everyone I was hungry. My MOH told me to stay put, and that she was going to order room service. So I sat in the ballroom, hungry, and waiting. It felt like I was waiting for 30 minutes, and by then I was so hungry and cranky that I couldn’t wait. My MOH came back to tell me that she had to wait forever to order, and that the menu was really limited, and that they were going to deliver the food in 20 minutes. TWENTY MINUTES! Are you kidding me!?! I stood up, walked out of the ballroom, determined to get myself some food. But as soon as I walked out of the ballroom, I realized that I had no room key, no cell phone, and, most importantly, NO MONEY! So I just stood there. I told myself that the next person who walks outside the ballroom, I’m taking them with me!
The first person to come out of the ballroom was my friend Jeff who was planning on going to the bathroom. I said “do you have money,” he said ”yes,” and I said “‘let’s go!” He laughed and went to the bathroom first. Before he could come out, two other friends came out. I asked if they had money, they said yes, I said let’s go. And we went! There was a Mexican taqueria a couple blocks down and over from our venue. We all knew it well.
Can you picture it? Me, in my WEDDING DRESS and veil, wearing flip flops, walking to a taqueria. I really wish someone had taken their camera with them. It was quite funny. We’d be walking, and all of a sudden bar hoppers would yell “congratulations.” I had to laugh. I must’ve looked ridiculous. We got to the taqueria and the long was loooooooooooooooooong. It was a Friday night, we were in downtown after the bars and clubs had just closed. The line was at least 25 people long. So long it was out the door. I was desperate and my friends did what probably anyone else would’ve done in that situation. They started saying “Hey, it’s my friend’s wedding day, she’s really hungry, and she didn’t get to eat at the reception. Can we cut?” Luckily, everyone was happy to let us cut–or at least didn’t want to be the jerks to say no. We got all the way to the front. Actually, there were 2 girls in front of us because they didn’t care if it was my wedding day or not, they were not going to let me cut! Ugh! Anyway, I was so excited to be close to food.
My friend PT said he’d buy my food, so I took a seat at a table and waited. While waiting, a bunch of the customers congratulated me. It was really cool. Eventually one of them said “are you really a bride?” I had to laugh. I wanted to say “No, I was just really hungry, and figured throwing on this dress would get me to the front.” Oh, did I mention that at sometime during the reception, someone had stepped on my dress and ripped part of it. Well, the dress wasn’t ripped, but there was a part of the dress that was kind of like a pick up, and the pick up got…unpicked? Haha. I was just a big mess.
We got our food and headed back to the hotel. As soon as we got back to the hotel, PT called John to get us since we had no room key. He came down and looked and me jokingly disapproving. He said “You didn’t tell me where you were going. You left me on our wedding night!” I laughed and said “I was hungry!!!”
We went back to our suite to find that our entire suite was filled with a bunch of friends. Apparently, after I left, they just relocated to our wedding suite. There was probably a good 12 guys in our room. Our best man came up to me and said “just tell us when you want us to leave, and we’ll go.” But all I was concerned with was biting into my burrito. I said “As soon as I’m done with my burrito, then everyone can leave.” I spent time enjoying my burrito, while the guys talked and hung out. I felt bad because we bought a lot of food, but my MOH’s room service order was also there too. But it was okay. I was eating, and it felt good. I imagine it’s not everyday that you see a woman in a bridal gown at a taqueria. Totally wish there were pictures of that.
Anyway, I finished my burrito and then it was finally time to take off the dress. Funny that I took the dress off while still having everyone in the suite. No, I didn’t do it in front of them. I went to the bathroom, thank you very much. The dress and veil came off, and the pjs went on. It was time for our friends to leave, and time for us to get some sleep. It was one of the longest, most memorable days of my life. It was almost 4am by that time, and I was beat. I washed up for bed, and konked out. But I konked out as a married woman.
