A couple years ago I initiated a mini reunion with the group of friends I hung out with in high school. Truth be told, I hang out with a million c/o ‘00 and c/0 ‘01 folks now, but somehow after high school I completely stopped keeping in touch with everyone my year, except for my BFF. It’s probably due to the fact that all the girls I hung out with in high school went far for college, whereas I only went to CAL, an hour away from San Jose. Once we were all done with college, I moved back…but somehow no one else really did. Most of us went to grad school, and still no one came back home. So now that we’re older and only in San Jose during the holidays, I thought it’d be nice to get together. Facebook has become a wonderful way to contact people, as well as e-mail. I contacted those I hung out with in high school via Facebook, and we made plans to meet up the day after Christmas.
We had about 14 people show up to the dinner, which is a pretty good amount of people considering we never hang out. I didn’t take pictures during the night because I was lazy and mingling. Luckily, one of my friends Jeff (of JAKsomething) whipped out his iPhone and snapped some pictures.

Matt, John, Gloria, Me and Maria

LeAnne, Nancy, Hung, *Mike hiding*, Alex

Mariah, Eang and Billy
I just realized that there are no pictures of Jeff. It was nice for all of us to get together. We had 3 newlyweds in our group, which is always nice to talk about. Mariah and Eang had just gotten married in November, and this was the first time I saw them since they’ve been married. Billy and Jeff had lost a lot of weight since high school, and some of us hadn’t seen them since their dramatic weight loss. But overall it was just nice to see everyone again. Some of live in SoCal, some live in Sac, and then there’s us that live in Wisconsin.

Group picture at the end of the night. I didn’t get the “black” memo.

And the “fun” one
I don’t know when the next time we’re ALL see each other, but it was nice seeing everyone. I can’t believe it’s been a decade since we’ve been in high school. I feel like we’re all still the same people. We’re still goofy. We’re still crazy. But now we’re older. Now we (well, THEY) have jobs. We’re married. We own homes. WE’RE OLD!!! Ok, maybe not old, but older. We all said that we wouldn’t go to our 10 year reunion, and it’s probably true. We don’t need to see those other hundreds of people we don’t really care about. It’s the small intimate reunions that are the best. I hope we have another one soon.
