NYE 2008

The days leading up to NYE was pretty fun. I think I went bowling a total of 3 times. Awesome! I have confirmed my theory that I always do well the first game, then my score slowly dwindles down. I also played badminton with some high school friends, and my sister, brother and cousin. That was a lot of fun too. I hurt the next day. I need to play more.

Anyway, this post is about NYE, so onward to the day’s events. The day started with a trip to Alameda. John and I met up my friend Janet to hit up one of my favorite Sushi spots, Sushi House in Alameda. I can’t remember the last time I had Sushi House, and it was just as good as I remember it…yummmmm! If you haven’t already tasted Sushi House, you should definitely go!

I hadn’t seen Janet since our August wedding, so it was great catching up with her, and just seeing how she was doing. She’s a part of my Hawaii girls, as I like to call them. There were 6 of us girls that went to CAL that went to Hawaii after graduation. For the most part, five of us still keep in touch. I had hoped that our other friend, Coriemae, would be able to join us as well, but she works the night shift at Children’s Hospital, so she was dead tired that afternoon. Janet and I spent two hours just talking about how married life and living in Wisconsin is like, and how she likes nursing and her love life. I can’t wait to meet up with her again.

After lunch, John and I headed back down to San Jose to pack for the night. If we had been more efficient, we would’ve packed the night before and just hung out in SF during the day. But since we weren’t, we went all the way back down to SJ to pack. After packing, it was time for us to head to SF for John’s friend’s actual “Engagement Party.” I know I mentioned this before that one of John’s friend was going to propose to his gf on NYE. Well, he was also throwing a small engagement party after he proposed to her…it was supposed to be a surprise. Not wanting to miss out of this milestone, we hauled butt up to SF.

The happy couple, Thuy and Duc

We were so honored that his friend Duc invited us to be there. And we can’t wait for their wedding!

Btw, Duc’s dad is a chef at an SF restaurant called Than Long. I know it’s pretty popular among Asians, but I don’t know if it’s popular in general. OH MY GOSH, at their engagement party, Duc brought garlic noodles from the restaurant–apparently, the restaurant’s signature dish–and it looks so simple but tastes AWESOME! I told my BFF to try to the next week, and she said the same thing. It looks like whatever, but tastes sooooooo good. I recommend everyone try it! They also have a sister restaurant called Crustacean, which is probably more well known.

After the engagement party, John and I headed back down to SJ. We were attended a party at the San Jose Hilton with a bunch of John’s high school friends, my BFF and John’s BFF (hahaha–I think I’m overdoing the BFF lingo). We were supposed to pre-party in the room at 8pm, but we ended up getting to the hotel at 8pm. So instead, we just started drinking while getting ready!

Cheers! With LeAnne and Alex

This picture just makes me laugh.

My most favorite people

Me and a Jonas brother. It was supposed to just be a picture of me showcasing my new ‘do, but the Jonas bro showed me up! And yes…my outfit looks familiar doesn’t it? Hey, I figured that none of my friends had seen me wearing this dress!

BFFs for 14 years!

Our first NYE as a married couple

After we were ready, it was time to meet up with all the other folks.

The fellas.

And the ladies.

After our mini photo session it was time to head to the ballroom and P-A-R-T-Y!

Can you see me?

Yes, we had a fun night ringing in the new year. It was important for John and I to do one of those big NYE bashes since we had never done one before. I wanted to do it once before we had kids, and the sooner and the better. This was the first NYE that I didn’t see my family. And while that may seem sad, I don’t think of it that way. I still called them from the Hilton to wish them all a happy new year. I just wanted to have a different married new year. I mean, this will officially the first year of our marriage, and why not do something different. I know next year we’ll probably stay at my parents’ house to ring in the new year like we always do. But now I don’t have to wonder what it would be like partying all night for NYE.

The interesting part is that the night didn’t end once the party was over. Well…maybe the party did end, but the night wasn’t over. We went back to our hotel room, and got ready for bed. John was pretty much done for the night, but LeAnne, Alex and I stayed up talking. Eventually, our friend Jeff, and his friend Henry, came to our room after their NYE bash ended. We all hung out until 4am just talking, which is what old people do. Hahah.

That’s Jeff and my passed out husband

And that’s what I looked like at the end of the night! Eek!

All in all, it was a good evening. The important part is that I spent it among friends, and the change was nice. Back to family for next NYE. The countdown begins!
