Trip to Borders

Last week I went to Borders while John went grocery shopping. After grocery shopping all these years, we’ve discovered that I really hate grocery shopping, and he really loves it. Since there’s a Borders in the plaza with our grocery store, I went there while John went shopping. I had been interested in getting a book about pregnancy for quite some time now. NO I’m not pregnant, and no I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon. I just figured that I know nothing about pregnancy, and it’d probably be a good idea to learn about pregnancy before actually getting pregnant. I always like having informed decisions.

I had asked women on thebump.com for recommendations on a good book to tell you about pregnancy and they all said that “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” was the bible of pregnancy. So that’s what I bought. Well, turns out that it’s really a book about charting. It’s totally not what I was looking. I don’t know what I was looking for. I guess I wanted a book like “pregnancy for dummies.” What to expect, what women should know before they get pregnant, or the things that no one tells you about pregnancy. Oh well, it’s still a good read.

In the book I’m learning about the Fertility Awareness Method. It’s really similar to the NaPro method that John and I were taught as part of our Natural Family Planning required by out Catholic diocese. When it comes to my anatomy and pregnant, I am completely naive on the subjects. It’s nice to learn about pregnancy. Finally I understand some of the things John was telling me about the female reproductive system. After this book, I’ll be on search for another pregnancy book.

I also bought the Supermarket version of “Eat this, not that!” I like the idea of the “no diet weight loss.” John and I are pretty bad at what we eat, so I figured that if we could at least shift to buying the same foods but the healthier versions that it would be a nice start. I decided not to buy the original one, where it told you what to buy at all the restaurants that we love eating at. I flipped through most of the book and there were a lot of restaurants that I’ve never heard of and that we don’t have here. John and I are huge eating out folks, so it could’ve been beneficial for us too. But I really think that if we lessened the amount of eating out that we did and change what we buy at the grocery store, that it’ll be a good start. But since John went grocery shopping the day I bought this book, we’re going to have to wait a little bit to put the book to good use.
